Description
This photograph of a sweetgum tree in autumn was taken in North Carolina and was featured in a magazine years ago. We were watching a big storm that turned a beautiful day completely black and poured down the rain. The sky opened and a sliver of light came down and illuminated this tiny portion of the branch of this tree with its spiked gumballs. I saw it from the window, grabbed my camera, and ran like the wind. I managed to snap off two images before the light was gone. It was taken with a 35 mm film camera. There is no digital manipulation to create any of the effects including the tiny starburst of light from a raindrop almost in the center, a bit off to the right of the top third middle of the image. It is serendipitous moments like this that make me love what I do and continue to encourage me to share the wonders of Mother Nature with others.

Isn't it such a gift to meet others who have a 'knowing' of what we feel when we take a defining image? The same is true for others who simply take a moment to comment in an already busy life. I appreciate it all. Thank you, thank you!

absolute magic, Jill!!!! I completely understand your love of it ... I can feel it!!!! For many (most?) of us there is a moment when an image captured becomes part of our soul and we know, deep down, that the capture / creation of something that moves us is what we're all about. And many (most) of us can point right to the image / images that led us to where we are. Love this ... love your love of it!!!!!!!!! l/f and t
