This image entitled Blue Ribbon River has won numerous awards including being part of the prestigious Professional Photographers of America Loan Collection. I was in the middle of a Jazzercise class when the sun came out. I looked out the window and stopped in the middle of the class and got to this location as fast as I could, having previously viewed it thinking it might be a beautiful image if the light was right.
But it was blowing and overcast and frigid when I first spotted it that morning. The wild weather subsided, the sun came out, and in spite of three feet of newly fallen snow, I captured this serene image of the beauty of a Michigan winter's day on the Huron River. I will forever see myself standing on a crumbling bridge in snow up to my rear, in tennis shoes, and not caring one iota about anything but the majestic view that lay before me. Deep breath, depress shutter, pray.
It makes a beautiful Christmas card. My mother's favorite color is blue and this hung in her house.
