Description
A gondola ride in Venice, Italy, is like a dream. To journey the watery streets and alleys in this beautiful city, enjoying the Venetian architecture, has been on my bucket list my whole life. This view is of the Grand Canal, which is the main waterway through Venice. It is a natural channel that traces a reverse S to the San Marco Basilica in Venice and divides the city into two parts.
The Grand Canal is two miles long and 100 to 225 feet wide. The average depth is 17 feet. The poled gondolas are the favorite mode of transportation by tourists, of course.
Our leisurely journey on the canals with a gondolier is a memory I will cherish always and highly recommend to any tourist. Don't take the gondolas at the pier, however. Go inland to the Grand Canal where the gondolas are far more beautiful and there is more space to enjoy the trip, as the canals at the piers are packed!
