The Marine Corps War Memorial is located in Arlington National Cemetery, in Washington, DC, the United States Capital of the United States. It is a memorial "In honor and in memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps who have given their lives to their country since November 10, 1775."

This statue is a depiction of the flag raising on the tiny island of Iwo Jima, off the coast of Tokyoduring WWII. After taking over the island, five marines from Company E, 2nd Battalion, started the tortuous climb up the rugged terrain to the top of Mount Suribachi to hoist the American flag signaling victory.

It is believed that three of the marines lived to tell the story, while two were killed there. The statue is cast in bronze by US Navy salor and sculptor, Felix W. de Weldon. President Eisenhower dedicated the morial on November 10, 1954 on the 179th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps.

It stands to reason that when I spray painted the neighbor's black hearse a sparkling shade of silver that I was destined to be an artist.
