Artist's Description

Christmas Eve in downtown Dexter, Michigan, in the United States is lit throughout the streets with old-fashioned luminary. You know, sand in the bottom of a white paper bag with a real candle in it? Rare for these days. It only happens once a year. No matter the weather. There was very little snow on this year that I captured this. But it was bitter cold. And still. Truly a silent night. Full of wonder and awe. The sky's twilight color such a perfect backdrop for this downtown scene.

I spent several years heading downtown after dark on the holiday to see the spectacle and capture its small town quaintness spreading a message of peace and joy to the village's residents and visitors. The Baby Jesus statue sometimes shows up missing always to be returned again. The wind, some years, is so strong the luminaries can't withstand it. Some years the snow is so deep, few families in the neighborhoods brave the weather to set them up. And yes, there's even been pouring rain that really m...

My memories begin as a five-year-old-free-spirit discovering and creating anything 'beautiful.' I was bold, creative, curious, and loved adventure. It stands to reason that when I spray painted the neighbor's black hearse a sparkling shade of silver that I was destined to be an artist. Now that I'm in my 7th decade, my free spirit has settled down a bit (the hearse owner would be glad). Still, curiosity, creativity, and an eye for beauty define me. Lots of things inspire me in my art. I love traveling, and have been afforded the opportunity to see wonderful places all over the world.
