Description
Cherry blossoms in Washington, DC are a sight to behold. Here, the Washington Monument is framed and its base blanketed in the beautiful pale blossoms. It took me several tries of going to our country's capital before I finally hit the cherry trees in bloom.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is held each year for three weeks in late March into April. It honors the American and Japanese cultures and represents the bond forged between the two countries that began with a gift from Tokyo's May, Yukio Ozaki in 1912.
The peak blooming is the magical moment that occurs, on average, around April 4. When the trees begin to lose their petals, they fill the tidal basin with a sea of pale pink. If the wind blows, it looks like it's snowing everywhere. It truly is a sight to see.
