Description
Bill lived in my pond. I thought he was a bullfrog. Turns out he was a green frog. Either way, I loved him. When I'd come down to the pond, he'd be happy to have me visit with him. He enjoyed the tent worms I'd feed him and always knew I'd have treats.
Then one day, I found him stabbed through and through. I would suspect it was a blue heron who thought he'd make a great lunch. But he probably was just too big for the bird so he was left to die. I buried him. My husband made a little cross out of sticks.
You think this is a silly story. It sounds silly now, but at the time it broke my heart. I have always dearly loved frogs. And Bill was the best of the best. Here is his portrait on a day we spent together in the pond enjoying a fine summer day.
I no longer have the pond. I miss it every summer. But pictures like this bring back great memories to savor once again.
